Greenhouse & Garden in May
The beds need to be de-sodded, tilled and filled, but that's a project for another day!!
Update: we discovered the beds have drain tile in them so we won't be tilling this year. Sean weed whipped the grass and filled the dirt on top! We shall see how the plants grow! You can't learn if you never try. He also got the plants in the ground that we started from seed back in March and had in the greenhouse.
Here's what we've been up to lately.
Hydrate coco coir for our hydroponics & deep water culture. We are filling our net cups with this to act as our medium in place of dirt so our sprayers and pumps stay clean.
We assembled our sprayer hydroponics set up. Pro tip, dipping the green tubing in hot water before attaching to sprayer.
We brought the first round of cold temp plants out to the greenhouse mid April, some did better than others and we're still learning their water needs in the greenhouse. Some were over watered and some under.
I'd been wanting a burn barrel for a while, and Sean's dad happened to get metal barrels for free from his work so we picked one up when we were visiting. Sean drilled some holes for air flow and I made a make shift screen for the top out of some extra chicken wire that we had left from a previous project!
This is one of my favorite spots to sit and watch the meandering river. Sean made a grappling hook so we've been clearing out old trees and branches from our shoreline with it!
We've gotten lots of little projects done in between! I didn't know that when you buy a house, it comes with a Todo list that never ends!
At the end of the day, it's a labor of love. I look forward to my morning daily garden & green house walks to check on all the little plants.
This red bud tree is an absolute gift! It's so vibrant and beautiful! It makes the crab apple blossoms look dull.
